RESUMEN

Oral mucositis (OM) is a common complication during hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. When OM occurs, with the destruction of oral mucosal barrier function, the formation of oral bacterial environment is accelerated, which has a negative impact on the life quality and clinical outcomes of patients. OM can be prevented by keeping the oral cavity clean, using the mouthwash properly, and limiting the delivery of cytotoxic drugs to oral tissues. This review describes the research progress on the prevention and local intervention of OM in patients with hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, in order to provide ideas for the selection of clinical intervention and management strategies on OM, and to provide references for exploring effective management methods for OM.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUNDIdiopathic flexible flatfoot in children most frequently improves with age and remains asymptomatic. It is a physiological variation of the normality that does not require treatment unless it becomes symptomatic. The aim of this research was to investigate the reason why some individuals with flexible flatfoot become symptomatic by analysis of the differences in the relative alignment of each segment of the foot between symptomatic and asymptomatic patients with idiopathic flexible flatfoot using radiographic measurements.

METHODSOne hundred patients with idiopathic flexible flatfoot were retrospectively identified and divided into two groups: asymptomatic (n = 50) and symptomatic (n = 50). Standing anteroposterior and lateral radiographs of the foot were analyzed. Five measurements were calculated to describe the alignment of the foot. An independent-samples t-test and Logistic regression test were used for statistical analysis.

RESULTSAge and sex were similar in the two groups. The independent-samples test revealed significant differences in two parameters: the anteroposterior talonavicular coverage angle and the lateral talo-first metatarsal angle. When the Logistic regression test was performed, only the talonavicular coverage angle showed statistical significance.

CONCLUSIONSThe lateral displacement of the navicular bone, measured by the anteroposterior talonavicular coverage angle, seems to be related to the onset of symptoms. In individuals with otherwise normal flexible flatfoot, an increase in this angle might be an important risk factor for developing symptoms.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVETo study the efficacy of stenting followed by laparoscopic surgery in the treatment of obstructing left-sided colon cancer.

METHODSForty-nine patients with obstructing left-sided colon cancer were prospectively randomized into two groups. Twenty patients received emergent open surgery, while 15 underwent laparoscopic surgery 3 days after placement of the self-expanding metal stent (SEMS) and 14 of them received laparoscopic surgery 10 days after placement of SEMS. Outcomes evaluated included 1-stage operation rate, conversion rate, operative time, length of hospital stay, blood loss, postoperative pain score and use of analgesics, rates of permanent stoma, and postoperative complications.

RESULTSCompared with emergent open surgery, patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery had significantly less blood loss(P=0.000), lower permanent stoma rate (P=0.024), less pain(P=0.000), and lower incidence of postoperative complications. Laparoscopic surgery was associated with a significantly higher rate of 1-stage operation(P=0.004). Compared with patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery 3 days after SEMS placement, patients who underwent laparoscopic surgery 10 days after SEMS placement had a significantly higher 1-stage operation rate(P=0.001) and a lower conversion rate(P=0.046).

CONCLUSIONSSelf-expanding metal stenting is a safe and effective bridge to laparoscopic surgery in patients with obstructing left-sided colon cancer. Laparoscopic surgery 10 days after SEMS placement may be more appropriate.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVETo observe the immunological effects of three doses of H2 strain live attenuated hepatitis A vaccine 8 years after the administration and to compare with that of one dose of the vaccine.

METHODSIn a country area, 110 children of 1 to 7 years old susceptible to HAV were screened and administered with one dose of the vaccine, as group B; Group A were 42 children from one of the villages and administered with 3 doses of the vaccine according to 0, 2, 6 month schedule. Blood samples were taken for the children 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 12, 24, 36 and 96 months after the administrations respectively and detected for anti-HAV antibody.

RESULTSFor group B, the sero conversion rate of anti-HAV and GMC reached peak at 92.2% and 126.2 mIU/ml respectively, and then, began to drop with time; For group A, after 2 dose of the vaccine, the sero-conversion rate reached 100%, and the GMC reached peak of 2 739 mIU/ml one month after the third dose at 7 months. So that, group A has a better short-term immunological effects than that of group B. During 36 through 96 months, the anti-HAV positive rate in group B was 75%-71% and 80-89 mIU/ml respectively, and comparatively in group A were 100% and 918.2-480.6 mIU/ml respectively. The differences between group A and B were significantly important.

CONCLUSIONA 3-dose schedule administration of H2 strain live attenuated hepatitis A vaccine has better immunological effects than 1-dose schedule in 8years and further observations are needed.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVETo investigate tracheal mucociliary transport change after reconstructed with free jejunum.

METHODSTwelve canine models of extensive circumferential tracheal defects reconstructed with revascularized jejuno combined with Ni-Ti alloy mesh tube were established. Every canine model was marked in cervical skin projecting the lower resected margin of trachea lumen and was injected 50% barium sulfate mucilage as a tracer into the trachea lumen under bronchoscopy. Record the time from tracer injected into trachea lumen to its arriving glottis (mucociliary transit time, MTT) and the length from tracer injected into trachea lumen to glottis (mucociliary transport length, MTL). Mucociliary transit rate (MTR), as MTL/ MTT, was calculated. The same procedure was performed at preoperative and postoperative 7th day, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months.

RESULTSThere were statistical significance between preoperative MTR and 1 month postoperative MTR (P < 0.05). There were no differences between preoperative MTR and postoperative MTR at the 7th day, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months. There were also no differences between postoperative MTR at the 7th day and 1 month, 3 months and 6 months.

CONCLUSIONIn new tracheal tract reconstructed with free jejunum, MTR becomes normal at 3 months postoperatively.

RESUMEN

Micromonospora distributes extensively in environment. But most of them have not been known because the limitation of isolation and taxonomic approach. The phenotypic information such as morphological, cultural and physiological characteristics have been applied widely in the taxonomy of Micromonospora. The functions of molecular methods become more and more important in the taxonomy of Micromonospra accompanying with the development of the polyphasic taxonomy. Micromonospora is one of the most important sources in finding new bioactive compounds, some of them can yield antibiotics, such as gentamicins, rafomicins and newmicins, some of them can degrade natural rubber and fibrin. It indicated in recent years’ study that some bioactive compounds with particular chemical construction could be found from Micromonospora. These compounds can identify cancer cells and kill them effectively.
